Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle older plumbing systems common in historic Decatur homes?
Yes, we handle older plumbing systems common in historic Decatur homes, such as throughout the Oakhurst and Winona Park neighborhoods. These homes often have original older pipes and fixtures. Our team specializes in updating aging plumbing systems, repairing galvanized lines, and installing modern fixtures while preserving your home’s character.
Why does my Decatur home have low water pressure?
Your Decatur home may have low water pressure due to scale buildup in your pipes and faucets. Original plumbing materials in older homes may also leak and cause low water pressure.
When should I replace old plumbing pipes?
Replace old plumbing pipes, if they're beyond their expected lifespan or in poor condition. Galvanized steel pipes in older Decatur homes last up to 50 years, so most are overdue for replacement. New copper or PEX lines can last 40 to 80 years with proper care.

Job Locations and Reviews
Customer suspecting sewer rats are back based on the pest control guy finding one in the crawlspace. After crawling around crawlspace did not find any leaks on water lines or sewer lines showing no sign of rats. Informed customer to have the pest control guy back out due to something digging tunnels in the crawlspace. Customer is going to have him back out to look in the crawlspace. No issues upon departure
Came out for low water pressure at the kitchen faucet. Arrived and met with home owner. She demonstrated the side sprayer had regular pressure, but her regular faucet had low pressure. She also mentioned disposal was old and that the sink was slow to drain. We went down to the crawlspace and checked the water pressure and discovered that water pressure was actually too high at 85 psi. We inspected the drain line to the kitchen and found it was original cast iron with rusted nodules and back pitched sections. Notified customer of our findings and she elected to replace the faucet, disposal, PRV, front hose bib and stop valves for kitchen sink. Customer is planning to have drain line replaced when she returns from vacation. We preformed all work as quoted and the only new finding was that then main water line was energized with electricity. Electricity could only be felt when a section of pipe was cut off from ground. Customer is aware that kitchen sink is still slow to drain this time,
Water in basement near water heater upon arrival. Customer stated last night they noticed water in the basement around the hvac units and water heater. After looking noticed p trap for t&p and hvac condensate drain line backed up and not draining. Informed customer this would be the cause of the water on the floor due to the hvac unit running and condensing constantly. Informed customer we could attempt to clear the line using our small cable. Gave customer estimate, customer approved estimate. Ran cable down 2 inch p trap and cleared the blockage. Tested the line to ensure it would not back up and poured a cup of vinegar down the line to help clean up the build up from the condensation. Line is now flowing and no longer backing up. THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING CHEN PLUMBING!
